Vishwajit calls for 30-day ban on fish imports

PANJIM: A day after TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai statement’s, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has moved a note for banning fish imports in Goa for 30 days.

"This is with reference to the meeting held at the South Goa District Collectorate in Margao in the presence of the Hon’ble Minister for TCP,  Vijai Sardesai. Request Secretary Health to please move a note to the Government to the Hon’ble Chief Minister regarding imposing the ban on import of fish for a period of 30 days," the Health Minister’s note states. 

He said the matter was also discussed in Delhi in the presence of the  Union Minister for Commerce and Industry,  Suresh Prabhu regarding having the protocol setup for the Export Inspection Council (EIC) and Quality Inspection Council (QIC) to set up the operations and protocol in Goa to have international food safety standards in the state of Goa for testing of fish and other food articles as discussed in the meeting.

"Requesting Secretary Health to please move the note on top priority to the Hon’ble Chief Minister for directions. Today, I also received a call from the Minister for TCP, Vijai Sardesai inquiring into the status of the same," the note to Health Secretary states.
