Team Herald

VALPOI: After facing water shortage for the last few days, the women from Zarme led a morcha to the water supply department at Valpoi demanding 24 hours water supply.

The women complained that the tanker operator does not supply water to the village when the taps run dry and that he is always found in his shop during duty hours. The tanker operator even demands money for supplying water to Zarme villagers, the woman claimed.

“We have been facing the water shortage in our village for the last five days. Besides, the tanker operator is also not supplying water properly. Therefore, we demanded that the department employ a woman to operate water tank, since women are more responsible than men,” Kalpana Narayan Naik said.

When contacted Assistant Engineer Eknath Paste over the water shortage at Zarme, he said, “The houses in the village are located on a hilly area due to which water does not reach the households. But, we have started supplying water using a tanker. Besides, the Zarme water pipeline has become very old, which the department will replace soon.”

Moreover, he said, the demand for water has increased in Sattari taluka and to meet the same, the department would increase the capacity of Dabose water treatment plant by five MLD.
