VASCO: Traffic congestion at Birla Cross junction as well as Titan gate junction has become the order of the day.

The Cortalim Panchayat members and the traffic police feel that bus stops located at and near these junctions lead to traffic snarls, especially during peak hours, as buses stop right at the junction itself for picking up and dropping passengers.

“We have received numerous complaints about traffic congestion near these two junctions including Birla cross (meeting point) and Titan junction. Both these junctions have traffic signals but many a time traffic is obstructed due to bus stops where buses halt,” said Raymond De Sa, Cortalim deputy sarpanch.

De Sa said that considering the safety of the people working at Verna IDC, the panchayat had demand relocation of the five bus stops away from these two junctions.

Similar views were expressed by Vasco traffic cell in charge PI Roy Pereira. He said that buses halting near the Titan junction creates more problem as recently traffic signals have been installed at both these junctions and whenever any bus stops all the traffic behind the bus gets blocked at the signals.
