MARGAO: Angry that BJP did not take them into confidence before nominating Sharmad Raithurkar as its candidate for Margao, a group of the saffron party workers have decided to support former chief minister Digambar Kamat in Margao, on Tuesday.

Addressing the press in Margao on Tuesday, Narayan Fondekar complained that senior BJP leaders in the constituency had not been consulted before selecting the candidate. “I am working for BJP for so many years, but the Mandal had not taken me into confidence,” he complained.

“Margao had two candidates in vying for the BJP ticket, but the decision to field Raithurkar was taken without consulting me and other senior leaders. I don’t any have problem with giving ticket to Sharmad, but they should have made it a participatory exercise," he said.

However, he mockingly asked: “Why has the party given this candidate ticket? Will they give him ticket till he wins?”

Fondekar clarified that he and his colleagues won’t join Congress but would support Kamat in their individual capacity.

Raju Shirodkar said that he would support MGP in Curtorim and Fatorda and Kamat in Margao.

“BJP government has stopped works worth Rs 3 crore in MMC and even in BJP wards too. The condition of the BJP workers is the same as Congress workers now,” Raju said.

The press meet was also addressed by Mandar Parodkar and Prayan Dhamaskar.
