He has acted in a Konkani movie and has directed a few Marathi movies, making Tapan a very busy man.
His eyes generally see the sunlight around 7.15 am. A cup of tea is followed by meditation. Like many people interested in living a healthy life, he devotes an hour or two to working out. This is well thought out routine. Twice a week he focuses on yoga, twice a week running, freehand and running on the beach. This has been a constant in his life for over 12 years.
He then returns home prays, has a very heavy breakfast and then leaves for work. Oh yes, while he works out, meditates he does not answer his phone. He commences his communication with the world at 10 am with exceptions made for emergencies. Breakfast is very important and as a vegetarian he likes to sample the vegetarian cuisines from the various States. A Punjabi wife means he samples vegetarian fare from the Punjab. A masala dosa on a Monday could mean a vegetarian dish from Orissa. However what remains a constant is dry fruits, fruits and yoghurt which is consumed everyday at breakfast. Like someone who loves his food, he can cook very well. However there is a twist, a vegetarian for a couple of years now, he can only cook non vegetarian fare. This mean when friends come over he cooks a mean chicken dish amongst others.
His travel takes him regularly to Mumbai and Delhi. He enjoys eating at Olive and Bombay Canteen in Mumbai and Soy in Goa. A man of the world is one who keeps the doors and windows of his house open and lets the wind from all directions to pass through his house. This is obvious in his taste in music; he listens to all genres and is influenced by his mood. It could be Arabic, Indian, western classical music or even Bollywood music.
As someone who weaves images out of words or ideas, Tapan surprisingly does not read fiction. His argument being he reads stories every day and would like to keep his personal time to read something else. His personal reading time is devoted to the spiritual. He reads all the holy books and motivational books.
His work takes him to Mumbai for two or three days every week and for a couple of days to Delhi. Every two months he also travels to Dubai. All these visits are related to work. Holidays for him means either home in Cancona or Shimla which is his wife’s place. No place in the world can beat these two places.
His hobbies include reading, watching Hollywood and Bollywood movies and yes driving long distances. He refused to be drawn as to which were his favourite Bollywood movies claiming it could irritate people. Asked where he saw himself in five years he said “I would like to be happy and hopefully take the right decisions based on the situation around me. That is very important for me.” We hope it works out for him and yes the next great hit comes from his imagination.
