PANJIM: The first in the class of New 105M Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) “ICGS Samarth” built on GSL in-house design was handed over to the Indian Coast Guard within contractual time schedule, today.
This largest and most advanced new generation OPV was handed over by RAdm Shekhar Mital, NM,IN (Retd) CMD, GSL to DIG Rakesh Pal, TM, Commanding Officer (Designate) in presence of DIG T P Sadanandan, TM, Principal Director (Mat) Indian Coast Guard in a simple ceremony held at GSL on October 30, 2015. S P Raikar, Director (Operations) GSL, DIG Arun Shrivastava, CGRPS Goa, and other officials of Indian Coast Guard and GSL were also present on the occasion.
CMD, GSL in his message said “The timely delivery of First CGOPV of a new class at fixed cost is a landmark event for GSL.” CMD added that the OPV being handed over today speaks of GSL’s commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative of the Govt of India and yet another proof of successful journey towards timely execution of the project by a proud DPSU Shipyard, in perfect synergy with Coast Guard.
The ship has been built in supervision of Coast Guard Head Quarters and CGRPS based at Goa.
This state-of-the-art OPV is first in the class of six OPVs being built by GSL for Indian
Coast Guard. It will be the biggest ship on joining Coast Guard fleet. ICGS Samarth has been delivered on time, despite concurrent design by GSL to International Class notations.
Significantly, “ICGS Samarth” will be formally inducted in to Indian Coast Guard by Hon’ble Raksha Mantri on 10th Nov 2015, in the presence of Director General Coast Guard and lot of other senior dignitaries both from Government, Coast Guard and GSL.
