PANJIM: The statement by the PWD minister Sudin Dhavalikar against pubs, women drinking, wearing bikinis and foreign tourist has shocked the corporate world in the state. They have however preferred not to come on record with their views.
Speaking to the Herald off the record a member of the tourism trade said it was shocking that a senior politician should be making such remarks considering that the economy of the state now depended on tourism to sustain itself.
Others like Atul Pai Kane posted his feeling on the popular social networking website Facebook. He wrote that he was of the belief that attire and diet are personal and no one can or should be stereotyped. Sudin is not in tune with the times.
Still others preferred to smile when asked the question, refusing to answer but when pushed would say that it would be nice if people were more cautious when they spoke in public. Especially when they were politicians and people would listen to them when they said anything. Asked why none was willing to come on record one of them said that they lived here and wanted to conduct business without being victimised.
