HERALD: What made you take up business at such an early age?
ANKIT JAIN: I was a student of BE Computer Science from PCC Verna, which I completed in August 2014. I am very clear in what I want to achieve in life. I was never interested in taking up any job. During my studies I was busy equipping myself with skills which would help me in my business later. Along with my engineering studies, I did study circuits, applications robotics and a two-year course in animation too. In fact, I had set up this company Cumala Dashch at Porvorim in 2013, long before I passed my engineering. At present, we have eight qualified engineers and diploma holders working for us.
HERALD: I understand that you have a virtual monopoly in Goa in LED business. Please let us know more about it?
AJ: Yes, you can say so that I have a monopoly as I am dealing in electronics, video wall advertising and signages. Our major clients are shopkeepers interested in kiosks, casinos in Goa and even traffic police. This is primarily because we provide products with good finish and customised special effects on the boards. We have our market existing in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh and very soon we are planning to enter into Maharashtra.
HERALD: Who are your major clients in Goa and what is your contribution towards them?
AJ: We have done our bit in several ways. The traffic signals at Porvorim, which works, is installed, designed and maintained by us. Similarly, we have installed several public information systems (PIS) in virtually all the major hospitals of Goa which displays customised messages related to health and cleanliness. Our products like LED video walls are being used by several casinos, restaurants and hotels in Goa. We have developed special circuits and software to operate it as required by our customers.
HERALD: What are the advantages of LED? Why should one go for LED?
AJ: There are several advantages in using LED. Foremost being the drastic reduction in your electricity bills. In fact it could be as less as 1/10th of the present bills. Second, since it operates in low wattage and DC system it is safest and one can be absolutely safe from any electrical shocks and is accident free. Apart from more attractive looking it is surely less hazardous than the other conventional electrical illuminating appliances.
HERALD: Where do you intend to see yourself in next five years and what are your future plans?
AJ: I am sure in next five years we will be in a position to push ourselves deep in the Indian market. We are also planning to get into, import and export of these LED items.
However, as of now we are working on setting up a tracking system for local buses in Goa via GPRS and 3G/4G technology which will surely help commuters in these buses to know about the buses exact timing of arrival and departures. If this gets successful, which I am confident it will, it can surely help in better traffic management in Goa.
