PANJIM: The Quadros Group is planning to be listed on the stock exchange thus making it the first automobile dealer in the country to go public. This exercise is expected to be completed in the next couple of months. This will also make Quadros Group the first company from the state to do so.
Evencio Quadros, chairman and managing director speaking to the Herald revealed his plans to take the group beyond Goa. He said the plan to be a Rs 600 crore group in five years would be lead by the lubricants and alcohol business. It is a very aggressive plan considering it is currently a Rs 90 odd crore company.
Revealing details he said “My lubricants brand called Traxxon and AeroPlano an American tequila brand will be my focus as I go into the national market. The market in both these product categories is experiencing high growth rate in the country and my products will certainly be attractive to a lot of consumers. Presently 90% of my groups earnings come from my automobile industry but in five years it will be very different.”
These are dreams that seem so far away from 1995 when he started a garage for two wheelers in Savordem, Curchorem. This was after he completed his MBA in Mumbai. His dealership in Idemitsu lubricants in the mining belt gave him a taste of doing business with the expansive credit limits that were prevalent in the mining belt. He however stuck to his guns and came away without tears. Business however is like a roll of dice. Disappointment or even worse bankruptcy can be the result of faulty decisions. His plan to represent LML in the south was a disaster when in 2004 the company went bankrupt. He was left with huge stocks and with great difficulty he was able to dispose it. It left him bankrupt. He however came back and went on to represent several brands in the automobile industry.
Today he represents Yamaha, Vespa, Suzuki, Renault and Mahindra. This he says is a very conscious move to be present in all price points and not be in competition with each other. Goa is very unusual in the sense it is the only state where the sale of scooters is much more in comparison to motorcycles. Quadros attributed this to the poor state of the public transport system.
The plan to take the group public will be handled by Altina Securities Pvt Ltd a Mumbai-based company.
