While
the recent announcement by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) that students would
not have a retest of their Maths paper came as a pleasant surprise, the
students and the parents had to suffer a nightmarish week.
The families of these students go through
various emotions like stress, anxiety and pressure to get the best results. So
during the days where there was speculation, it was definitely more than
stressful.
Simran Gadekar from Aldona had her son,
Sanraj, answering his board exams this year. He was then to leave for a school
organised trip to Kerala. “I was tensed and confused as I wanted to be happy
that the exams are over and I was almost caught off guard with the news of the
leak. The students put in so many hours of studies and it was unfair to put
pressure on them all over again. However, we were relieved to get the news that
the retest has been cancelled,” she says.

The students were both relieved and yet thinking of improving
their score if they could get a retest.
I was really confused when the paper leak news broke out. We had
just finished answering our paper and my paper was really good. Just the idea
of studying it all again for a retest was daunting. Many of my classmates were
in two minds about the thought of answering the paper again, wondering if they
could maybe score better marks. For most of my classmates, Maths was their last
paper, while I had to still answer my French paper, my second language. Now, I
can breathe a sigh of relief as it has been announced that we don’t have to
answer the paper again.
SANRAJ GADEKAR, Aldona
I was nervous when I heard about the retest and that the paper
would be even tougher than before. On the other hand, I thought it would be
good to answer again to improve my marks. My Maths paper went really well and
if there was a retest, I would get more time to study. I found the Science and
Hindi papers tough. We had no clue about the paper leak until it came on the
news. It is obvious that the leak would not benefit the students as it was just
a few minutes before the paper. My family was shocked as we have planned our
holidays in the USA and we were about to cancel our tickets. Now the plans are
still on and we will be leaving in May. After my Class 10, I plan on pursuing
Arts so that I can study law in the future.
