MARGAO: In a recent incident that has stirred local concern, a vehicle with a Maharashtra (MH) registration plate was seen dumping garbage in a paddy field in Chinchinim village. The occupants then arrogantly drove off when confronted. The illegal act, which took place in broad daylight, has brought to the fore behaviour that is increasingly seen along roadsides in Goa.

The Chinchinim panchayat, responding to the environmental violation, has vowed to take action against the culprits involved in this offence. Speaking to O Heraldo shortly after the incident, Chinchinim Sarpanch Frank Viegas revealed that the area where the dumping occurred is under constant CCTV surveillance, and such acts are caught on camera. He added that he would personally follow up on this case, as it occurred in his own ward.
Viegas pointed out that the panchayat has already taken a firm stance against prior instances of illegal roadside waste disposal. He noted that the panchayat has imposed hefty fines of Rs 5,000 on violators caught so far, and added that they coordinate with the local police to ensure that the culprits are apprehended.
