Find the job you love…

We work. Well, at least most of us do. Of course, some people go about it in an underhanded manner whilst others strive to be upright and honest.

We work. Well, at least most of us do. Of course,
some people go about it in an underhanded manner whilst others strive to be
upright and honest. Then there are those who have it a whole lot easier than
others (thanks to the sweat and toil of forefathers who worked extremely hard
and set up great banks of inheritance) whilst some have it really tough, slogging
it out day after day just to make ends meet. At this juncture, I must say that there
is a different sense of achievement and joy that accompanies the cheque or
payment that comes in after a hard and honest day/month of work…

Now they say that money can’t buy you happiness.
But it is a necessary evil if you want to live and have a decent life, or at
least a life of one’s choosing. After all, if it wasn’t so, why would they term
it ‘earning a living’? In that regard then, one is required to work and earn
one’s keep. But I strongly believe that if you find something that you love to do, then it doesn’t feel like a
regular, monotonous, stuck-in-a-rut kind of job and you’re sure to find an
unparalleled happiness from it. In time, the money will come too and you’ll be
stress-free when it does!

Take me for example. Like someone in my family once
said, I’m a jack of all trades but a master of none. But hey! It’s taken me a
while to get here and now I’m not budging! I am my own boss; I work when I want
to and find myself all the more happier for it! I remember, when I first
started out in the big, scary work world, I stressed about everything – getting
to work on time, meeting deadlines, if I was doing enough for the company (even
when I was staying until the wee hours of the morning), whether I was in the
right profession altogether, if I was getting paid enough, why I wasn’t saving
sufficiently, etc… I neither ate on time nor slept enough and compensated for both
with junk food and power naps. But after having an accident (which I now
believe was God sent), I was forced to take time off from everything. This in
turn gave me time to sit back and take a stock of my life.

And so, after my unintentional but much needed
sabbatical, I returned to work but only long enough to put in my resignation
and clear out my desk. Thereafter, I pretty much did nothing for a year and a
half – just caught up with my sleep, my family, my friends and myself. In
short, I caught up on my life. At the same time, I also decided on what I
wanted to do and worked towards it – taking baby steps in charting my course
and getting paid a pittance along the way. But patience paid off and today I get
to do everything that I love while still finding time for family, friends and
myself. I sing, I write, I host events of all kinds and I get to do radio. But
I also get to save up and splurge, travel and talk, dance and dive, eat and
explore. I get to meet people from all walks of life, learn from them and live
through their stories, experiences and ways of life.

At the end of the day, I am ever so happy and I
know just how blessed and lucky I am. So for all of it and the more I know is
coming, I am extremely grateful. I just hope everyone else can find it too!
Remember, choose a job you love and you will never work a day in your life!
