An exciting
five-day, ‘Young Astronaut’s Program’ recently concluded at the Nuvem based Bloomz International
School. The school stated that the participating students from across Goa were
very excited about the different aspects that are taken into account when
Astronauts are being trained at NASA. Day one began with an ice breaking
session with the 46 participants and their parents. The students were aged
between 8-18 years. The sorting session of the students into mixed groups gave
the students a chance to mingle with each other and form groups that would work
closely for the next few days as a team. The next few days agenda was discussed
and the children made parachute rovers from scratch with their teams.
Day 2 unfolded with
the teams being explained and asked to make and design their own Mars space
stations and a lot of innovative ideas came forward as the teams presented
their ideas to each other.

Day 3 and Day 4 saw
the teams test their parachutes by launching them from the top floor of Bloomz
International School into the spacious indoor sports hall beneath. The students
were made to think about the risks and consequences of their parachutes being
launched in certain ways so they would land safely or else be damaged in the
landing process.
The
two days saw the students being exposed to pool time, where they took part in
problem solving activities in the pool. They were shown scuba diving equipment
and how similar the experience of being underwater is to being in space. On the
last day of the workshop, the students prepared their presentations as teams
about what they learnt and their experience of the last few days. Parents were
invited for an award ceremony and graduation of students for the NASA YAP
program at the Bloomz International School, Nuvem campus.
