When was the last time you were inspired by an original song? Here to bombard you with talent of live bands and original song writing skills is the two day Vans New Wave Musicfest. With various music festivals making their presence felt, the Indie festival is the first one of its kind
to hit the Goan shores. Organised by Mumbai-based indie label Ennui.Bomb and Art Escape and the Live Music Project from Goa, the festival will showcase bands from across Asia.
The Vans New Wave Musicfest will be held on November 15 and 16, 2014 from 10am to 10pm, with continuous live acts by over 60 bands including six Goanbands. Other bands in attendance will be from India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Burma, Nepal, Hong Kong,
Dubai and Thailand. The performances will be held on three different stages, Vans Main Stage, Pepsi MTV Indies stage which will witness acts from Bangalore, Mumbai, Goa and the third stage will be the Stupidities Stage which will be showcase bands from Imphal, Nepal, New Delhi andKuala Lumpur.
The internationals acts include Shonen Knife (Japan), Kyoto Protocol (Malaysia), Little Fox (Thailand), Point of View (UAE), Youth Unite (Nepal), Squirt Guns (Nepal), RebelRiot (Myanmar) and The U93 (South Korea). There is no question of why Goa was selected as the
venue as Vinesh Iyer of Art Escape says that being a global destination, the festival reaches out to a wider audience. “The intention of organising Vans New Wave Musicfest was to focus on original music instead of continuing with cover songs. This music festival will change the music scene in Goa as it will encourage Goan musicians to experience different variations of music and to write original songs,” he
says. Art Escape constantly organises various initiatives and festivals that introduce Goa to original music of all genres. This festival will focus on showcasing fresh indie and
punk talent from all over Asia and is expected to attract
around 5,000 music lovers over the two days. “There have
been different music festivals in Goa before, especially
electronic music, but very little is known about Indie music
and its genres like Acoustic Rock, Electric Pop, Punk Rock,
Funk, Alternative and Hip Hop. There is a small percentage
of Goans who love Indie music but we hope more will learn
about it through this festival,” adds Vinesh.
The festival will be student friendly; college students
just need to have Student ID proof to enter the venue.
“There are many bands which have never played in Goa
before while few have performed in Goa through the Live
Music Project, Goa. We want this to be a stepping stone for
musicians in Goa and India,” says Vinesh.
There are also plans of making New Wave Musicfest an
annual event promoting live original music, though the
dates are not decided upon for the next year.
