Pandemic is a reality and as per me this is an out of syllabus question even for the Government. There is a two-pronged approach needed, A. The government has to up its act in terms of supporting citizens with jobs B. As far as law and order is concerned I feel a complete no nonsense approach is needed. It’s disappointing to note what appears to be a declining law and order situation in the state. With resources stretched thin due to Covid-19, authorities seem to have their hands full. Meanwhile, criminal elements here are idle and jobless, and many businesses remain shut. Whether the crime is murder or about rowdy party goers, consuming drugs, the root cause is idleness. I don’t think the answer here is to add more law enforcement. I think the government needs to deeply consider the new normal and implement security measures that focus on causing the least possible harm while reopening business in Goa and ensuring jobs for the jobless. This will, in turn, mitigate some of the issues the state is facing with anti-social elements-Jason Fernandes Online Marketer
In my opinion, this situation is very unfortunate. These sorts of crimes are now going to be on a rise; people are desperate, owing to the current global crisis, don’t mean I condone murder or am at peace with what transpired yesterday! Having said this I would like to appreciate the effort of the Goa police crime branch led by PI Sawant for the immediate action taken in nabbing the culprits. I think the only defense we now have is to be alert and reach out to one another rather than be silent spectators in times of need. This incident is not a surprise. Ever since the pandemic, the law and order in the state has gone for a toss. With petrol rates increasing and the cost of everything else going up people eventually, people are finding it difficult to survive. We’ve seen gang wars, ATM robberies and now even murders. I’m deeply saddened about the incident in my Margão. The people of Margão are so dear to me and that was really terrible. I have watched the video clip and my heart was pounding as I’m very sensitive about disturbing images. Similarly, about the fight that broke out at a party in North Goa, it had to do with drugs and all other nuisance; I feel it’s very alarming. From Drugs to a broad daylight murder. And due to the pandemic, a lot has been going uncontrollable. If you have seen the video about the Margão incident, people wanted to help him but they also had the fear of COVID19 transmission.
