The curtains unfolded to Kala Academy’s 11th Tiatr ‘B’ Group Competition with the staging of the tiatr ‘Chorak Dubhav Chan’neacho,’ written and directed by Gloria Ferrao and presented by G F Production, Navelim. The story revolves around Patrick (Bernard Colaco), his spouse Lucy (Genevieve Vaz) and their two children Savio (child artiste Cristan) and Savia (child artiste Sheryl). Patrick is a businessman by profession, while his wife serves as a housewife. Patrick’s bachelor brother Joao (Roy de Chinchinim) stays under the same roof. There’s also a tenant Patil (Custodio), who resides with Rohit (Jesus) and they assist the family as and when required. One unfortunate day, Savio is a victim of snakebite and Rohit comes to his aid. Savio is rushed to hospital and timely intervention helps the doctor to save Savio’s life. Savio nurtures Rohit’s timely help in his heart and decides never to part from him. Patrick decides to send his two children abroad for further studies and Savio takes Rohit too along with him. As grown-ups, Savio (Benny) returns home with his sister Savia (Nanushka Vaz). Rohit (Rolton) too joins them. Noticing Rohit as an educated youth, Patrick tries to rope him into his business. What follows next is presented during the second half of the drama. Gloria Ferrao’s tiatr ‘Chorak Dubhav Chan’neacho’ had a story to relate, but the title looked inappropriate to the presentation on stage. The tiatr highlights the negligence of guardians due to involvement in business and other chores. Consequently, children go astray and are lost in the family and life. All the artistes on stage tried to put together their respective acts on stage, but the presentation lacked direction. Dialogues were delivered casually by the actors. Gloria Ferrao carried a character role and she delivered it with the typical accent and dance sequences. The flavour of comedy went amiss, though Roy de Chinchinim as a bachelor and Gloria as Deepu tried to bring out some laughter in some of the scenes. In the category of songs, Renecia Rodrigues and Rosanna Paes stepped on stage for the opening song, followed by solos from Renecia Rodrigues, Aloyd Pereira, Jenevie Vaz and others. There were songs in different categories, but more new singers and rehearsals with the band would have made a difference. The stage sets were worked upon by Anthony de Ambaji, while Romeo assisted with the light effects. Ashwin Mascarenhas laid his hands on the background music.
