Goa is one of
the host venues of the FIFA U-17 World Cup and it is a huge opportunity for football
lovers to show their full support for the game at this International
tournament. Akshada Bandekar, a second year student pursuing a degree in
Electronics and Telecommunications at Goa College of Engineering, has always
dedicated her time for music, especially songs that give out a strong message.
“‘One Dream’ is a song I wrote for the FIFA U-17 World Cup that
is taking place for the first time in India, which is pretty exciting and quite
a big deal for us. I’ve always been in awe of the whole ‘FIFA Anthem’
tradition, and to be honest, I feel like I fell in love with FIFA because of
the amazing anthem songs that it would bring with it,” says Akshada, whose
favourite themes songs are Shakira’s ‘Waka Waka’ and Knaan’s ‘Waving Flag’,
both from the 2010 FIFA games.
“I also like our official anthem, ‘Kar Ke Dikhla De Goal’,” she
adds.
The official theme song was released in September. Written by
lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya and composed by Pritam, the song features a host
of well-known music artistes, including Sunidhi Chauhan, Neeti Mohan, Babul
Supriyo, Shaan, Papon, Mika along with a rap performance by Abhishek Bachchan.
This is not the first time Akshada has worked on a FIFA theme
song. “I had previously written a song for FIFA 2014 called ‘Amara Vida’. When
I learnt that a FIFA tournament will be taking place in our own country this
year, I knew I had to work on something for it. I didn’t really experiment with
‘Amara Vida’, the way I have with this one.
“That song had a
typical football anthem beat. ‘One Dream’ combines two genres of music, anthem
beats with a cool EDM drop, and gives it a club song type of vibe. I’ve been
working on it for over two months while it took me just two days to write the
song. I worked with Harshvardhan Jain and Aditya Malve for this song and the
production took a while as I wanted to make sure it has the right kind of
vibe.” The song is written, composed and sung by Akshada, produced by Aditya
Malve and Harshvardhan Jain, mixed by Aditya Malve and mastered by Waves Kraft.
“It’s always fun
creating a new song. Experimenting with different genres is always challenging
and exciting and when you finally hear the final product, the kind of happiness
you feel is just inexplicable. The song has so far garnered over 80,000 views
on Facebook so it’s doing pretty well. It was even featured on sports website
goal.com,” says Akshada, who is looking forward to seeing the Indian and
Germany games.
Akshada
had previously released songs on Swachh Bharat initiative, a music video, ‘Havn
Goenkar’ to urge Goans to vote, and several songs on Goa. Speaking about her
love for music, she says, “I work on these songs just for the love of music and
to create something that will be heard by people and have an impact. Each song
is my little contribution towards a particular cause. Also, I always believe
that music is a great way to spread any kind of message you want,” concludes
Akshada.
