The Cantosospeso Choir of Milan, Italy and the Luther King Choir of São Paulo, Brazil,
under the direction of Martinho Lutero Galati, will present Wolfgang Amadeus
Mozart’s ‘Requiem’, in collaboration with musical ensembles directed by maestro
Santiago Lusardi Girelli in Goa, and Jonas Olsson in Bangalore. During their
India tour, the choirs will have concerts in churches, historical monuments and
cultural centres till April 8, 2018.
Cantosospeso Choir of Milan, Italy and Luther King Choir of São
Paulo, Brazil, both directed by Martinho Lutero Galati de Oliveira, are
celebrating 30 and 50 years of existence respectively and they decided on a
tour of India as their anniversary bash. Luther King Choir consists of 100
people made up of four choirs – Luther King, Fabrica do Som, Forum Coral and
Terca Maior, while Cantosospeso Choir consists of 150 people made up of choirs
Cantosospeso, Terza Maggiore, Fabalalavos, Forum Corale, Didone. In Goa, they
will be collaborating with the Goa University Choir, which was founded in 2013
under the baton of Maestro Santiago Lusardi Girelli. Since its creation, the GU
Choir has offered multiple programmes, concerts and workshops across Goa and
India, receiving excellent commentaries from the audience.

The choirs will be performing ‘Requiem’ by Mozart, which is a
50-minute-long piece that will be broken down into 12 pieces for their performances.
“It is an important piece that hasn’t been or isn’t usually performed,”
explains Martinho. West/ East choir tour will perform at the Church of St
Ignatius of Loyola of the Seminary of Rachol, on March 28, 2018 at 7pm and at
the Church of our Lady of Divine Providence, Convent of St Cajetan, Old Goa, on
March 31 at 6pm.
Martinho, chorus master and orchestra director, who is heading
both Cantosospeso (Italy) and Luther King (Brazil), and Santiago, who is
conducting the Goa University Choir in Goa, collaborated on this concert at the
rehearsals and by choosing of programs and organisations. They selected various
venues for the concerts as they wanted to give importance to the community and
the artiste movement it may bring.
Speaking about the experience of the Goa University Choir
interacting with the choirs from Italy and Brazil, Santiago says, “It is a very
rich experience because of the cultures represented in the three groups that
have come together to sing. It is interesting to see the difference of vocality
and repertoire and how you can work to bring this together in one piece.”
In 1970, Martinho
Lutero Galati de Oliveira founded the Luther King Choir in São Paulo, where he
still is the Artistic Director, having conducted the choir in more than 500
concerts. He is the Artistic Director of the Cantosospeso, which he founded in
1987. Luther King Choir and Cantosospeso will be performing three concerts in
Goa before moving on to perform in Bangalore. “It is a way of representing all
the worlds of our repertoire. It is the type of work Luther King and
Cantosospeso do, which is giving voice to all cultures.” They will be
performing without the Goa University Choir at Shree Kshetrapal Damodar
Sausthan Durgawadi, Taleigao on Good Friday, March 30, 2018 at 6:30pm.
