With the new
management system in place at the Entertainment Society of Goa this year, there
seems to be a missing link, the Public Relations department. With no
coordination between the media and the guests invited for the International
Film Festival of India, it is a hunt down for the celebrities. Annually, a PR
agency would be in charge to manage press interactions with the celebrities by
slotting time for each publication.
At the IFFI Curtain
Raiser press conference, held a day before the festival, Cara Shrivastav was
allotted PR responsibilities. Two days since the commencement of IFFI, there
has been no cooperation from her side. She was not informed about her duties
and how the previous management was slotting time for the press and the
celebrities to have interactions together, apart from press conferences. From
the ESG’s management side, everyone seems to be in a hurry with no time to
answer questions. In this mad rush, it is even more difficult to find out when
the guests are free for a few questions.
While the Press
Information Bureau (PIB) is doing their duty of informing about the scheduled
press conferences, the celebrities invited for other functions have no time to
say a word. They are ushered in and out of venues with the press being kept at
bay.
When Shripad Naik,
General Manager of Entertainment Society of Goa, was approached, he initially
put his hands up, adding that since the celebrities have been invited by the
Directorate of Film Festivals, they should be in charge of press interactions. It
was after being reminded that every year, ESG took on the responsibility of
handling the press, especially the Goan press, that Shripad realised the huge
blunder.
Questioning a few of
the officials from his department and moving on to have a meeting with the
officials of Press Information Bureau, Shripad has promised to get the system
running where the reporters will not have to waste time, waiting for their
chance to speak.
