 One booked for raping minor 

MARGAO: Colva police have registered a case against a resident of Navelim for allegedly raping a minor girl.   
The mother of the girl in her complaint has alleged that her daughter, aged 15, was raped by a man from Navelim in December 2012 near a starred hotel at Benaulim. The victim who is learnt to be five months pregnant is presently in the custody of an NGO.  
An offence under section 376 of IPC, Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act and section 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offence has been registered against the accused. Further investigation in the case is being carried by Colva PI Uttam Raut Dessai.
Chowgule reduces cut-off percentage
MARGAO: In an interesting development, Chowgule Education Society has reduced the cut-off percentage for XI Science by more than one per cent.
Chowgule Principal Dr R V Gaonkar confirmed that the cut-off percentage has been reduced to 75 per cent from 76.17 per cent, making around 30 students eligible for admissions to the stream. 
Gaonkar said that students have already started taking admission based on the latest development, adding that the last date for admission is Wednesday. 
Replying to a question, he said the students are aware of the reduction in the cut- off percentage, even as fears were expressed in many quarters that many students may not know the changed situation. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday refused to answer any questions on the Chowgule admission imbroglio, adding that the Director of Education is pursuing the matter.
Complaint against 11 under ST act 
MARGAO: On a complaint from Joana Dias e Viegas of Mugalli, St Jose de Areal, the Maina-Curtorim police have registered an offence under the Schedule Castes and Schedule Tribes Atrocities Act, 1986, for causing unlawful assembly, trespass, damage to property, assault and theft and insulting against Moreno Carlos Rebello of Maina-Curtorim and 10 others on Tuesday.  
Police have registered the offence under sections 143, 147, 148, 427, 504, 506(ii), 452, 394, 509 read with 149 of IPC and section 3(1)(ii)(iv)(x) and section 3(2)(vi) of Schedule Castes and Schedule Tribes Atrocities Act, 1986, against the accused persons.
Joana in her complaint has alleged that Rebello along with 10 others formed an unlawful assembly and entered her property on July 8 at 11 am. 
“My paddy field was damaged by using a JCB excavator causing a loss of Rs 50,000,” she stated. Joana said her mother-in-law was abused in filthy language, her son (Justin) was assaulted and his digital camera worth Rs 5,000 was taken away. Further investigation in the case is being conducted by Margao DySP Mohan Naik.
