Van falls off road, driver injured
PONDA: A van driver from Marcaim was seriously injured in a road accident at Moosa-Bandora, Ponda, in the wee hours of Sunday. According to reports, the accident occurred at about 2.30 am when Sandeep Fadte was proceeding in his van towards Marcaim. Sources informed that the driver lost control of the van and the vehicle ran over the roadside protection wall and fell near a house, which is located about 5 metres from the main road. The van first dashed a car parked along the roadside and a house before it went off the road. The injured was admitted to GMC Hospital in Bambolim.
Computers, cash theft at Candolim
CALANGUTE: Computers and cash all worth Rs 90,000 have been stolen from a company office in Candolim. In a complaint, Sunil Sawant of Morod-Saligao complained to Calangute Police that the burglary took place sometime before 9 am on June 11, when his computer, two laptops and cash of Rs 5,000 were stolen from his office. The Calangute police have registered the offence under Sections 457, 380 IPC and are investigating the case.
Unidentified man found dead
CALANGUTE: An unidentified man was found dead near a temple in Calangute on June 13. Calangute police recovered the body near the Saibaba Temple at Calangute and sent it for an autopsy. Calangute police is investigating.
Theft at Marcela school
PONDA: Electrical wires worth Rs 15,000 were stolen and some property was damaged at a school in Tivrem-Marcela. In a complaint, the headmistress informed Ponda police that the incident took place sometime between 1.20 pm on June 12 and 7.30 am on June 13, when unknown persons trespassed into the school premises. The Ponda police have registered the offence under Sections 447, 461, 427 379 IPC & Sec-3 of PDPP Act and are investigating.
Dharbandora man hurt in Tisk mishap
PONDA: A pedestrian was seriously injured when he was knocked down by a car at Bhumika Nagar in Tisk-Usgao on June 12. According to Ponda police, a resident of Dharbandora drove a Maruti 800 car in a rash manner and struck a pedestrian, Mallapa Kangalkar (48) at Bhumika Nagar, causing him grievous injuries. The car then rammed into a parked Honda City car and came to a rest. The driver however fled from the site.The Ponda Police has registered the offence under Sections 279,338 IPC & Sec-134 (a)(b) of MV Act and is investigating the case.
Two Narva locals held for theft
BICHOLIM: Two persons have been arrested on charges of stealing cement poles, wire and cement bags, besides damaging 100 poles from a company at Talewada in Narva-Bicholim. In a complaint, Aman Pathan of Bandarwada – Bich olim informed Bicholim police that the incident took place sometime between 6 pm on June 9 and 6 pm on June 11, when the accused, Jalmadas Rawal and Babi Rawal, both from Talewada-Narva, trespassed into the property of the company and stole 50 cement poles, 10 kg wire and 7 cement bags, while damaging 100 poles.
Theft at Sancoale Industrial Estate
VERNA: Goods worth Rs 3.38 lakh were stolen from a factory at Sancoale Industries Estate. In a complaint, Prashant Volpikar of Chicalim informed Verna police that the incident took place sometime between 10.30 pm on June 12 and 8.30 am on June 13 when burglars broke into his factory at Sancoale Industries Estateand stole a laptop, electric motors, two cylinders, stainless steel raw material, aluminum material, transmission shafts, HPM Bush support, a mobile phone and a welding machine.
Assault accused granted bail
MARGAO: Joao Pereira, a resident of Utorda, who was arrested by Colva police on Saturday, for causing grievous injury was released on conditional bail bond of Rs 10,000 and one surety of like amount and was also directed to report to Colva police for 6 days. The complaint was filed by Diago Pereira, also of Utorda and a neighbour of the accused, who stated that he was assaulted and four beer bottles were hit on his head. Diago was then hospitalized
Bike stolen at Betul
MARGAO: A Splendor motorcycle, GA-02-P-2092 belonging to Sainath M Mheta of Ragali, Betul, Velim, has been reported stolen by unknown accused person. Mheta in his complaint stated that he had parked his two wheeler at open place in Betul and that the same was found stolen when he returned to fetch it.
Goods destroyed in fire at Mapusa
PORVORIM: Property worth Rs 1.50 lakh was destroyed in a fire that broke out in two houses at Sawantawado-Khorlim, Mapusa, on Sunday afternoon. According to Mapusa fire station, the fire broke out in two houses belonging to Saraswati Shirgaonker and Nirmala Sagelker at Sawantawado-Khorlim. The Fire officers rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire within an hour. Goods like TV, cupboard, clothes, documents, etc, were destroyed in the fire causing damages estimated to be around Rs 1.50 lakh. The cause of fire is being investigated.

Environment Day celebrated
PANJIM; Resort Dona Sylvia together with Radisson Blu celebrated World Environment Day on June 5 with three major green initiatives including resort cleaning, tree plantation drive and beach clean up. The children of NGO ASRO-Caritas were invited for the tree plantation drive which was initiated by the heads of departments along with their teams. The area immediately outside the resort properties were cleaned in the resort cleaning initiative along with staff and locals. The beach clean up drive included collection of waste along with plastic and glass debris. An effort was also made to remove tar balls.
