Finally there seems to be ‘light’ at the end of the tunnel. The State government has approved the setting up of a power sub-station in Calangute. Hopefully the frequent power cut will be a thing of the past.
Calangute is easily the most sought after destination for domestic tourists, if not foreigners. The frequent power breakdowns have not gone down well with the tourists. This had somewhat sullied the image of the State as a tourist paradise.
The Electricity department is now in talks with the comunidade for a plot of land which had been identified. If everything goes well, the sub-station will become a reality within a year. Starred hotels which will be immensely benefitted may be asked to contribute towards land acquisition from the comunidade.
