Really don’t know whether it’s good or bad news but the reality is, Churchill Alemao is coming to town with an anti-Mopa airport meeting scheduled on the May 1 2015 at Lohia Maidan.
I do understand and agree that it is he who started the campaign against Mopa airport long ago. Those days he had almost covered the entire South Goa addressing meetings against the proposed Mopa airport introduced by the Congress of which he later became a part once again and was awarded with the PWD portfolio. During his tenure as a PWD minister he never spoke a word against Mopa airport. I hope Churchill is aware that Mopa Airport is the Congress introduced project.
Doesn’t matter, he is back again to fight against the Mopa airport. I would say, God bless him if he is out against Mopa airport with a clean mind and heart in the real interest of Goa and if he is out to take political mileage of the issue for political gains then, God take care of him. Though personally even I am opposed to Mopa, can Churchill be trusted?

Anti-corruption bill
The efforts to fight graft should receive a big impetus with the Union Cabinet’s decision to approve amendments to the anti-corruption bill, which proposes to increase the maximum punishment for graft from five years to seven years. The move to place corruption in the category of heinous crimes is also welcome.
The proposed amendments to the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill 2013, aim at providing stiffer punishment for the offence of bribery- both for the bribe taker and bribe giver. One hopes that the proposed amendments instills the fear of God among the offenders and brings down incidences of graft drastically.

Stop creating panic
Some persons in India are trying to create panic among the minds of Christian community, by saying that Christians are being persecuted. Jubel D’Cruz wrote a letter on 29 April in your esteemed daily about it. This reader always writes letter in the same tone.
Mr. D’Cruz needs to understand that the attacks on Churches cannot be blamed upon the Central Government. Law and order remains a State subject. Similarly, creating panic among the Christians is not a solution.
The Prime Minister has interacted recently with St. Thomas Christians’ religious clerics, and his government has time and again assured no discrimination on religious basis. While criticizing Modi when needed, let us not lose rationality.
But it needs to be understood that creating more panic is of no use. The Herald also needs to refrain from publishing such letters.

Earthquakes and TCP
The recent tragic earth quake should be a wakeup call for all. The first measures to be taken during the same is to rush out and stay in the open.
I looked out of my flat and found that there was no open space on three sides of my apartment all surrounded by buildings! The fourth side had some space only because the land was under dispute: once settled we will have no place to run too!
Who is responsible for these ‘planned’ buildings? Who has been raising the FAR? Buildings leave only a 3 mt setback whereas they must leave half the height of the building!
