Elections and development

It is generally observed that elected representatives, irrespective of the political party they belong to and which is in power, usually commence the developmental work in their respective constituency just about two years prior to the next elections. In the first three years, after winning the elections, the elected representatives seem to be enjoying the fruits of their electoral victory. It is only after the third year, and as the elections approach, that there seems to be a flurry of developmental activities undertaken by the MLAs. It seems that elections act as Adrenalin for the elected representatives.
While we have a “report card” for the government in power which is inspected at the end of every year of the government being in power, there is no such “report card” for the elected representatives. In order to keep the MLAs busy with developmental activities throughout the five years of being in power, it seems necessary for the citizens to keep a track on the work carried out by those they elected to power at the end of every year of them being in power.
This performance can also become a criteria for the future electoral prospects of the elected representative.
