We are barely in the third week of the South West monsoon and there have been instances of fields being inundated by rain-water in several places in the state. Farmers have not been able to grow in their fields as the water from the fields has not receded thereby causing the fields to flood.
One of the reasons for the flooding of the fields could be the widening of the roads and the new roads that have been constructed without taking into consideration of the proper flow of the rain water.
It must be said that taking up the task of hot-mixing of the roads several times has led to the increase in the height of the roads. This could be another reason for flooding of the low-lying fields. It seems necessary to carry out proper study of the flow of rain-water while carrying out road-repair work as well as building new roads in order to prevent the flooding of the low-lying fields thereby putting the local farmers in a trouble.
