Bryan Adams finally rocks Goa
Canadian rock icon Bryan Adams finally brought the curtains down on the India leg of his ‘So Happy It Hurts World Tour’ by giving a most powerful performance in front of almost 10,000 fans who had gathered to witness an unforgettable night of music at the Bambolim Athletic Stadium on Tuesday. The crowd sang along to his timeless hits like ‘Summer of 69’, ‘Everything I do (I Do It For You)’, ‘Heaven’s, and tracks from his Grammy-nominated album ‘So Happy It Hurts’.

Well, this amazing 65-year-old legendary rockstar performed non-stop for almost 2 hours and even when his band took two breaks in between, he continued solo with a variety of guitars and a mouth organ. And as the final notes faded, Bryan Adams and his band left the stage to thunderous applause, leaving the crowd with memories of a night where world-class soft rock music came together under the Goan skies.
I therefore do reiterate/say that after checking the pulse of most Goans and their love towards international live music, the Tourism Department should try to promote such rock concerts of some international rock artists/bands in the state to really entertain all the foreign tourists/our live music loving Goans rather than fully backing some controversial EDM festivals and entertaining all the fake music lovers or drug addicts from our neighbouring states in Goa.

KTC smart transit card
– some teething problems
The Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) has reportedly launched its smart transit card on Wednesday, offering commuters a 10% discount on bus fares across Goa. However there could be some teething problems with the introduction of the smart card.
The travelling public, especially senior citizens, may find it difficult to adjust to the smart transit card. Hence the sale of tickets at the bus stands needs to be continued for some time. The KTC smart card provides students and senior citizens a 50% discount on bus fares. It is pertinent to note that bus concession for students in Goa was introduced in 1978–79 as part of a student movement. With the introduction of smart transit cards and an additional 50% discount, will students now be able to travel free of cost?
As the service of bus conductors and ticket checkers will not be necessary, they should be absorbed in other posts. On launching the KTC smart transit card, no concession is announced for the travelling women. When we talk of women empowerment, it would be in the fitness of things to make travel for working women in the state free of cost.
In Delhi, women can use the pink ticket to travel for free on all AC and non-AC buses operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). With complaints of exorbitant fees being charged for pay parking, smart cards could be introduced for pay parking of private vehicles as well.

The ruling and Opposition parties are making a mockery of the Democracy that we want in Parliament. To discuss the Constitution, the former uses the occasion to denigrate the Nehru Gandhi legacy flogging a dead horse like the emergency by Indira Gandhi and the latter counters by denigrating the Modi government.
BJP is trying to appropriate and create new narratives by their dominance and media hype, whereas in reality Ambedkar despised Hinduism and with his followers even switched to Buddhism!
It is a sad fact that in India, we vote our caste and politicians try all means to appease the dalits and other castes for votes.
The “rotten ecosystem created” term used by the PM to ridicule and run down the Opposition applies more to the Modi government because the ruling party is responsible to conduct Parliament and Prime Minister Modi is leading the charge!

Solidarity is a unifying factor which glues people of different nations. It focuses more on results and less on expectations. The United Nations has marked the “International Human Solidarity Day” on December 20. A hand is fought best when it is made a fist. Unity in diversity is the cementing factor for countries to root, blossom and grow.
In as much as there are extremely well-to-do people, and luxuries of life, there are the poor, the hungry and the diseased—-this inequality needs to be plugged. A free community, and strong communities, honour the dignity of every person, rewarding the effort with justice, promoting upward mobility, and building solidarity among citizens.
Only when a particular country is able to boost its economic prospects will it be able to compete with other countries. The UN’s aim is to foster stability among the nations through solidarity. One cannot forget that the evil of racism was fought with the stick called solidarity. When solidarity grows to the extent that one perceives others’ causes and duties as his/her own, international peace cannot be too far away.
It is apt to quote French film maker and author Claire Denis ‘ words “I can’t imagine a society without solidarity; it is a nightmare to live in such a place” .

R Ashwin’s sudden
retirement shocking
Veteran all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has surprised the cricketing fraternity by abruptly deciding to pull the curtains down on his glittering international career midway through the BGT series Down Under.
Perhaps, Team India’s setback in the last home series against New Zealand, and not getting much opportunities these days in away series must have weighed in his mind before taking the tough call.
Ashwin ended up as India’s second-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket and a career so decorated that India didn’t lose a single Test series at home between 2012 and 2024. The streak ended against New Zealand, but that was perhaps the first series Ashwin failed to deliver at home.
He was a freak who could bowl insanely long overs and always kept the opposition in check. Known for his cunning spin, exceptional cricketing intellect, and match-winning performances, Ashwin’s retirement signals the conclusion of a golden era for Indian spin bowling in the longest format of the game.

Do our police
need training?
If any goalkeeper let’s the ball inside the net more often than not, he will be either replaced or given more training.
Now when it comes to guarding our prisoners or undertrials, the question that arises is whether our Goa police need training to keep criminals safely in the lockup and also tracing and arresting them after they are escorted out of the jail. If the criminals are being escorted by the men in uniform, the question is will the escorts be motivated to bring them back?

Exposition Commissioner
Let me take the opportunity to congratulate the Commissioner for Exposition Sandip Jacques, IAS officer, who with his team, dedication, running up and down gave Old Goa a complete new look like Europe.
I visited the Exposition of St Francis Xavier’s holy relics with my family on December 14 and
we were happy to receive a warm welcome and good service from the volunteers deputed there. As a person with disability, I was supposed to travel from the gate to the church and back but unfortunately I could not exit from the gate opposite to Greenyard restaurant, close to Divar ferry. I had to return back to the same gate and boarded the special auto rickshaw kept for PWDs.
The service of auto rickshaws for PWDs, senior citizens and the sick, is a blessing to us all which should be the idea in future religious or any other programmes in Goa.
Once again “Dev Boren Korum” to our Government of Goa, Sandip Jacques, volunteers, Goa Police and workers who are working day night to keep the Exposition area clean.
