Cancel LLB exam
The Goa University decision to hold the Final Semester LLB exam from the July 1, 2020 needs to be immediately revoked in view of the changed Covid-19 situation in Goa with alarming rise in Covid infections in rural and urban areas of Goa.

It is pertinent to note that the Madras High Court on June 8, ordered the cancellation of the Class 10th examination and asked if the State could give an undertaking that no student will get Covid-19 infection. In a similar decision the Bombay High Court at Panjim suspended the functioning of the Vasco Court in view of the alarming rise of the deadly viral infections in the state of Goa. There are a number of students in the current batch from Vasco, the present hot spot of viral infections.
We seek the intervention of the Governor of Goa to order the immediate cancellation and not any further postponement of the Final LLB examination of the Goa University. The students should be graded on their past performance and deserving students to be awarded their degrees. The students cannot be further penalised in an unending agony for no fault of theirs, and they should be allowed to proceed on with their life and chosen profession. It is an earnest appeal to the Governor of Goa.

Nothing to fear
The virus is now in our midst, spreading fast. I have been writing your esteemed paper for long about face shields. They cost only Rs 30 to Rs 60 online. They cover the nose, mouth and eyes too. For reasons unknown, they have not been provided to all health workers, police, KTC personnel, fire prevention, etc. Persisting with this attitude will cost us dearly.
Our industries people should have produced injection mould devices by now rather than beg the CM for money. Our microbiology institutions, Health and Pharmacist associations have failed us with their eyes open. The virus has a slightly more aggressive morphology than other influenza viruses, but treated, again, as all influenza viruses. Only the serious should be hospitalised. There should be nothing to fear but fear itself.

RIP Miramar beach
Kudos to AAP and particularly ‘Honorable’ Valmiki Naik, for informing the governor about the ongoing mega violations of CRZ and common sense at Miramar beach. I use the title ‘Honorable’ because this gent broke convention and had the integrity to give the people of Panjim an affidavit assuring them that he would not defect if elected as their MLA; he has taken on the mantle of a ‘leader without a title’ to combat the galloping lunacy that is Goa’s ‘gaffernment’.
The samaadhi and the beautification work opposite in the guise of the Smart City initiative are an egomaniacal challenge to the sea’s unforgiving power. Unlike the amendments to the anti-defecting law (that were so deviously flouted by the ten ‘Wrongressmen’), the sea’s territorial rights are non-negotiable. The erosion at Velsao-Cansaulim shoreline stretch last year and similar damage to almost every one of Goa’s golden beaches is exceedingly worrisome, but the government isn’t bothered about scientific coastal afforestation.
Instead, the BJP has taken advantage of a hastily passed amendment to override CRZ norms to expedite Denmark’s ‘Blue Flag certification’ process. Only one beach in India, in Orissa, has been awarded this prestigious (and worthless) certificate thus far, which includes setting up of fresh water showers and changing rooms on the shore. The western coastline of Australia is witnessing terrifying erosion; millions of dollars are being spent to placate the sea that has not only reclaimed concrete shower structures on the shore but is ferociously laying claim on coastal roads and residences.
Sadly, disregard for Nature is a global malady with megalomaniacs like Trump, Bolsonaro, Modi and minions thinking their god – complexes and security detail will save them from the universal judgement that awaits fools. I’ve realised consciousness isn’t equitably distributed but I know the earth is a sentient being and her children i.e. the sea, land and air can take care of themselves. It’s us ungrateful humans that will have to face the consequences of having chimps in charge of Air Traffic Control.

Women in GFDC committee
Congratulations to Arjuna awardee Brahmanand Sankhwalkar for being appointed as GFDC chief. This post was lying vacant for a very long time after the dynamic football lover Dr Rufino Monteiro under whose leadership the GFDC was established by the blessings of late Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar who had declared football as the State game. Dr Rufino was able to nurture the grassroot talent with the help of his coaches in every nook and corner of the state. GFDC in short span of time has already discovered many Goan talent and moreover made the inter school games very competitive in every tournament. The State Government has now constituted the GFDC committee to be headed by Arjuna awardee Brahmanand who comes with lots of experience as a player, captain and mentor. GFDC under his leadership will definitely gain a lot while the young budding Goan talent should not miss this opportunity to be practicing hard on the football ground.
My request to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and GFDC Chief Bramanand to kindly include atleast three women footballers since GFDC is also responsible in creating the right atmosphere to encourage young Goan girls in their GFDC grassroot academies. Football in Goa is not only boys game the girls too have excelled.
If the state Govt can have two Deputy Chief Ministers why not include one woman as the second Vice Chairperson.? Viva Goa football.
