With reference to the CCP deputy commissioner’s statements regarding expanding the limits of Panjim city, I would like to make the following comments:
Presently, CCP cannot handle well the existing Panjim city. Many things are in a mess – garbage, green spaces, roads, transport, traffic, parking, sewerage, amenities, footpaths, creeks, employees, politics. I sincerely do not believe CCP can handle more than what it has in its jurisdiction. It was a blunder to include Ribandar under Panjim. Ribandar has now seen high-rise buildings that have spoilt the idyllic, beautiful village by converting it into a city and giving it no proper infrastructure and amenities. Making the city limits of Panjim larger just to chase big “smart” money on offer is highly inappropriate. I strongly object to increasing the city limits of Panjim. The people must be taken into confidence before taking any such decision. I would like to make the following suggestions: Give back the village status to Ribandar by keeping it out of Panjim. Raise funds for “small and beautiful” Panjim and do not chase dreams of a big city, but revert CCP to a municipal council.
