Paruleker, let garbage be your priority

I went through face-off on Sunday’s Herald (August 24). Interesting and with logic, Michael Lobo has put strong suggestions whereas Parulekar says Tourism Minister has to make foreign trips to learn tourism developments.

Mr Parulekar, if Mr Parrikar has selected you as Tourism Minister, he is aware of your talent of your own to develop tourism. My suggestion is first, in order to attract European tourists, first solve the garbage issue. Make Goa garbage free. Let this be your priority. You went on foreign tour and studied garbage. Have you done anything in return? If so, explain it to the people of Goa. Do not keep fooling the people of Goa. If you wish to go on foreign tour and study tourism, go there at your own cost and not at the expense of public money. You can fool the people some of the time, but not all the time. Vatican can give greater publicity for this exposition. What is applicable to foreign countries like Bahamas, Jamaica and Honolulu may not suit our environment as it is meant for that particular area. Here in Goa, every village can be a tourist attraction. Persuade the area like Divar island by introducing modern ferries with high speed and two decks. Every year, Divar Island celebrates Bonderam and you were invited here for this function. Till today, you have not fulfilled what you promised to the people of this island. Tourism Minister and his team should have creative ideas of their own towards tourism.
Joseph Pereira, Divar
