A portion of the old and narrow Tuem–Aroba–Dhargal bridge has reportedly collapsed, raising safety concerns among motorists and residents who regularly use the route.
The bridge is already narrow, making it difficult for two vehicles to pass each other safely. The damaged section has further heightened concerns, particularly during nighttime when visibility is limited.
Local residents have urged the Public Works Department (PWD) to conduct an immediate inspection of the bridge and put necessary safety measures in place to prevent accidents.
They have also called for repairs to be expedited and urged the authorities to speed up work on the proposed new, wider bridge to provide a safer and more convenient route for motorists.
