Rape of Tiracol

This is with reference to your bold editorial,  ‘Govt. Winks as Leading Hotels traumatizes Tiracol.’ You rightly state that Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, who is responsible to the people of Goa, is acting like a silent spectator and tacitly allowing Leading Hotels to bring in bouncers who have been acting like goondas and terrorizing the villagers of Tiracol into submission of their land.
It can be easily gauged from the situation that Leading Hotels, which has flouted the rules laid by the National Green Tribunal, is hell bent on creating terror in the village in order to frighten the hapless villagers that they are the masters of the land and no less a person than the chief minister is on their side. It is very saddening indeed that the government, instead of protecting the once idyllic Tiracol village, where people lived a harmonious lifestyle,  is turning the Nelson’s eye and allowing Leading Hotels to put up a golf course and villas.
This clearly shows that the chief minister, whom the people are looking upon for succour, is anti-people. Mr Parsekar, you just cannot maintain this kind of behavior in a democracy. Tiracol does not belong to you. It belongs to the people who reside there. No wonder it is being said these days that the BJP’s aim is to help the corporate sector to grow richer, and make the poor poorer.
