Justice has finally been done with the execution of Yakub Memon, 21 years after being incarcerated.
The President and the Supreme Court have done well to throw out his plea seeking a reconsideration of his death sentence. Yakub was instrumental in carrying out the horrific Mumbai bomb blasts of 1993 which took the lives of scores of innocent people.
All those who took Yakub’s side and tried to save him from the noose will now realize what is death and pain. The execution of Yakub on his birthday should instill the fear of God in would be conspirators and also send out the right message that any attempt to conspire against the nation will be dealt with an iron hand.
Well begun is half done and the government should now make a concerted effort to bring back Tiger Memon, Dawood Ibrahim, Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, Hafiz Sayeed and others and hand them exemplary punishment too.
