There was a time when one would very rarely hear of our Goans being involved in crimes. But sadly, today we have to admit that there is a high instance in drug cases, robbery, violence, suicides, abortion etc which is happening in our midst putting the entire community to shame. Recently, some minors were caught red-handed selling drugs that too close by to our church! Nowadays, the fear of God and respect for elders is lacking! Our priorities are all skewed and the televisions, computers, expensive mobiles etc are given first place, as a result there is hardly any time for God and prayer. In the past, when there were no motorcycles, cars, washing machines, our Goan families would gather around in the evenings to pray the Rosary together. But now, there is no time for family prayer and the Rosary beads have become an object to be hung either inside our cars or around our necks sometimes for style without even knowing its true value and meaning. It is high time to introspect, do penance, pray together and save our families and children from the clutches of evil!!
