“Man in early times was almost naked and his intellect evolved, he started wearing clothes. What I am today and what I am wearing represents the highest level of thought and civilization that man has achieved and not regressive. It’s the removal of clothes again that is a regressive back to ancient times” , was said by Nobel Peace Prize winner Tawakkul Karman who herself wears the purdah in an interview about Hijab.
Today, we the women in democratic India are thinking about the same progressive life. How can the veil which has protected millions of lives be evil? There are doctors, professors, teachers, businesswomen and many more who pride themselves in the Hijab. It does not hamper in pursuing a happy and successful life. So the statement raised by Mulayam Singh Yadav is just an unnecessary issue. Instead of blasting the society with such idiotic issues, it would be better if our leaders focus on the main backwardness of our society, like homelessness, poverty, lack of literacy, joblessness, crimes against women etc.
