Lolienkar gets further remand
PANJIM: Jailed former director of Mines & Geology department Arvind Lolienkar, will undergo custodial interrogation for another six days, after a local court extended his police remand on Tuesday.
Suspended Mines director Lolienkar was arrested on March 28, by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Crime Branch for allegedly conspiring with Kanpur-based private company Frost International Limited (FIL) in illegal mining. He is booked under sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code, and sections 7, 12 and 13 of Prevention of Corruption Act for shielding the company’s illegalities.
Lolinekar is also accused for not imposing penalties on FIL despite knowing it had violated Goa Prevention of Illegal, Mining, Transportation and Storage Rules, 2004. The company had failed to submit Forms B and C to the Mines department, to inform about the transportation, monthly returns and other details between March 25, 2010 and January 30, 2011. It is estimated that thus far over Rs 12 crore loss has been caused to the State exchequer.
Five escape from Apna Ghar
OLD GOA: Three juveniles and two inmates escaped from the Apna Ghar after making a hole in the wall in the wee hours of Monday.
Incidentally, the Apna Ghar authorities came to know of the incident only in the morning.
According to Old Goa Police, they received a complaint early Monday morning stating that the three juveniles and two inmates had escaped. A police team combed the area and its surroundings in search of the missing juveniles and inmates.
“Our search could not yield any result and they are still at large,” the police informed.

Brit files theft plaint
MARGAO: Reena Pinto, a British national residing at Baradi Betul has filed a complaint at Cuncolim police that on Monday, unknown accused persons s effected entry into his rented flat at Banbada, Chinchinim and committed theft of her purse containing cash of Rs 90,000, OCI Indian Passport and British passport. Police have registered offence under Section 380 IPC and Head Constable AB Parwar is investigating.
French national robbed
MARGAO: Unknown motorcycle borne miscreants on Monday snatched hand bag of a French national containing cash Rs 5,000, 300 Euro, digital camera Sony, flight tickets and French identity card all worth over Rs 40,000.
Goreman Daniela, French national presently residing at Carolina guest house, Benaulim complained at Colva police that while she was walking along the Benaulim main road, two unknown persons came on a motorcycle and snatched her handbag. An offence under sections 356, 379 IPC has been registered by Colva police and investigation is being carried out by PSI T S Naik.
Gold ornaments stolen
MARGAO: Santan Mascarenhas, a resident of Chirdolem-Curtorim in his complaint with the Maina Curtorim police has alleged that some unknown persons effected entry into his relatives house, situated at Chirdolem-Curtorim by breaking lock of sliding window and committed theft of gold ornaments. Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Velip.
One arrested for theft
MARGAO: Margao police arrested Kantilal Otaram Malaviya, residing at Ambaji-Fatorda for committing theft of five ceiling fans of Crompton Greaves Limited worth Rs 7,250. A complaint has been filed by Prakash Purohit, of Aquem, Margao. Further investigation is being carried by ASI C Velip.
Offence against St Inez businessman
MARGAO: The Margao police have registered offence of breach of trust and cheating against accused Joe Gomes, proprietor of Digicron, St Inez, on a complaint filed by Cajetano Maria Pereira of Dream Centre, Navelim.
Pereira in his complaint has stated that on July 16, 2013, Gomes who is authorized dealer for Mahindra diesel powered gen sets received payment of Rs 6.10 lakh from complainant for delivering 100KVA Mahinda D G set but failed to deliver the goods and also failed to return the amount to the complainant. PSI Girendre J Naik is conducting further investigation in the complaint.
Chinchinim sarpanch, dy voted out
MARGAO: The Sarpanch of Chinchinim panchayat Antonio Sequeira and his deputy Melsa Barretto were voted out of office in a no confidence motion on Tuesday.
The motion tabled against the sarpanch and deputy sarpanch was carried by 6-0 votes.
Panch member Constancio Fernandes said the signatories had tabled the no trust motion against the sarpanch since he was not taking the members into confidence. He charged the Sarpanch for not pursuing the market complex project despite the resolution adopted by the village pancahyat. “The market complex project is a revenue generating project, but the Sarpanch was not implementing the will of the Panchayat body on pressures from people from outside the village,” he alleged.
Forum flays govt over Aadhar card
MARGAO: The Navelim Civic & Consumer Forum has wondered why Goa government is still hesitating to stop the use Aadhar card in Goa when it is finally suspended and the CEO of UIDAI, Nandan Nelikani has resigned to join politics.
Condemning the colossal waste of public money and the trouble and tension the common men had to undergo because of the Aadhar link with LPG subsidy, the Forum has demanded that the extra money charged from the LPG consumers amounting to nearly Rs 800 per cylinder in the month of January, February, till March 10 should be immediately reimbursed. “From day one, the forum had objected to this whole UID scheme as it was impractical to implement all over India, in addition to infringing of privacy”, informed Forum Secretary Joseph L Vaz.
Forum members expressed concern at the number of deaths of young people due to the on-going work of laying of sewage line in Aquem and Navelim area. Forum has demanded better safety measures from the contractor for motorist and pedestrians using the roads and requested the PWD and the Traffic cells to monitor the safety measures periodically.
