 Senhorita Girl to perform today

PANJIM: Music lovers of St Andre constituency will have the rare opportunity to witness a musical performance by internationally acclaimed singer cum dancer Carlyta Mouhini at Goa Velha grounds on November 30. Carlyta Mouhini is a Indi-Brazilian singer/performer and international feature columnist with a major in Media Communications from Sao Paulo University. She has won several awards on her hit Indian film fusion songs and reality shows including the recent Bigg Boss Golden Heart Award. She has also won NBC Achievers’ Award and IIFA Award nomination, ‘Best Singer International’ for the Spanish-Indy song and lyrics (Porque Dime), ‘Le Le Mazale’ from the film ‘Wanted’ and ‘Senorita’. She also received Young Communicator Award’ 2012 for music in journalism. She is a trained jazz and blues singer and a trained Flamenco-Salsa dancer. She has also been a Media Columnist.  The show is sponsored by the Entertainment Society of Goa and begins at 7.30 pm. 
School fair at Aldona
PORVORIM: The traditional fun fair, canteen, games, Indian and western music and talent show by St Thomas School, Santerxette-Aldona, will be held at St Thomas Higher Secondary ground, Santerxette, on November 30 and December 1 from 5 pm to 9.30 pm. Canteen, stalls, jumble sales, games of skill, prizes and non-stop entertaining music for young and old is the attractions of the two days. There is no entry fee and it is open to the public.
Blood donation camp 
MAYEM: ‘Yuwa Bharat’ one of the wings of Bharat Swabhimaan, will conduct a blood donation camp for farmers at Shetye Udhyan premises on December 1 from 10 am to Noon. Coordinator Sandesh Barazankar said they would request farmers to donate blood. He also said the association would organise panchayat level blood donation and blood group detection drives and that a name-wise directory based on such blood groups would be kept in every panchayat office to help the needy people. The members have called on farmers to participate in the blood donation drive. 
VVM’s new panel takes over
PANJIM: Vidya Vikas Mandal (VVM) from South Goa had a change of guards recently with Ramnath G Kare who was the spearhead for the past 33 years stepping aside and handing charge to Ganesh M Daivajna, a chartered accountant from Margao and a founder member of Vidya Vikas Mandal. Nitin Kunkolienker has been nominated to the post of vice president and takes over from Daivajna. Kunkolienker has been president of the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry for over 9 years and has extensive experience in public administration, legal, taxation and education. Meanwhile Ramnath Kare has been elevated as the President Emeritus of the institution. The institution offers courses from KG to PG level. This is the only institution in South Goa that offers BBA, BCA, BCom, LLB, LLM, MCom, secondary and higher secondary, pre- primary and primary education. 
Couto’s new book release on Dec 4
PANJIM: Goa’s leading author Maria Auroa Couto’s new book ‘Filomena’s Journeys’ would be released by India’s eminent novelist Shashi Deshpande on December 4 in Panjim, at the Institute Menezes Braganza hall at 5.30 pm. The book release function has been organized in association with the Institute Menezes Braganza. Goans will also get a treat to hear two more equally eminent personalities on the occasion ~ Sunil Sethi, a journalist, columnist and TV presenter of international repute as well as Ranjit Hoskote, Indian poet, art critic and cultural theorist. The panel of speakers at the function also includes Prof Alito Sequeira, sociologist teaching at Goa University. ‘Philomena’s Journeys: A Portrait of a Marriage, a Family, a Culture’ is the fourth book Couto has penned. It is published by Aleph Book Company, India’s leading publishing house. Her other books are ‘Goa: A Daughter’s Story,’ ‘Graham Greene: On the Frontier, Politics and Religion in the Novels’ and has translated ‘Ethnography of Goa, Daman and Diu.’
Laadli Laxmi benefit to 10872 
PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar distributed 20 sanction letters under the Laadli Laxmi Scheme which envisages providing Rs 1 lakh as financial assistance for girls to meet marriage, education and other expenses on attaining the age of 18 years at a function held at Secretariat, Porvorim. Minister for Women and Child Development Dilip Parulekar, Secretary Women and Child Development, P Krishnamurthy and Director Sunil Masurkar were also present. Varsha S Naik, CDPO Tiswadi Taluka welcomed and later proposed the vote of thanks. Till date the government has received about 15,223 application under the scheme and so far 10,872 applicants have been sanctioned.
Diabetes clinic opens at Belgaum
BELGAUM: Noted Diabetologist and weight management expert Dr Neeta Deshpande, who has ancestral links to Goa, was speaking about the Insulin Pump and Continuous Glucose Monitoring System (CGMS) Clinic that will be launched in Belgaum on Sunday at a free seminar at the IMA Hall here at 9 am. Renowned Diabetologist from Pune Dr Suhas Erande and Dr Neeta Deshpande will conduct the free seminar. “Insulin Pump Therapy is being launched for the first time in north Karnataka and Goa region and will benefit several patients, especially the diabetic children who are dependent on 2-3 shots of insulin injections per day,” said Dr Neeta. “The CGMS is for diabetic patients who have extremely erratic sugars,” Dr Neeta stated.

State wins best leisure destination
PANJIM: Soon after Goa Tourism revealed statistics showing a 10 per cent rise in tourist inflow numbers, the State has now been bestowed with another honour. Conde Nast Traveller, India has declared Goa as the winner of ‘The Best Leisure Destination’ at the Readers’ Travel Awards 2013. The results of this award were announced on November 28. This is the second time in a row that Goa has won the award. The State has beaten Kerala, which was also declared as one of the other winners in the category.

Cake mixing at Curchorem
CURCHOREM: The traditional cake mixing ceremony was recently organised at Guardian Angel Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Curchorem. Principal Tony Menezes said it’s a ritual followed the world over and is a harbinger of good tidings and happiness. Manager Fr Joaquim Rebello said, “The stirring ceremony is part of an age-old Christmas tradition and one making wishes for the New Year. All the participants took a chance to pour wine, rum and mix the ingredients like raisins, sultanas, dates, tutti-frutti, nuts, spices, etc. Certificates were distributed to the housewives on completion of 10 days course in cookery and bakery.
