Irrespective of the arguments of the CBI and the BJP on being correct in their actions, there can be no excuse for stopping the work of the Chief Minister of a State who has been elected by the people. This is being stated since news reports indicate that people were stopped from accessing the floor where the CM’s PS’ office was being raided and which had the Delhi CM’s office also. For the CBI raid, should the working of a duly elected government be suspended? The answer is – NO.
The CBI should have had more sense than to bring the work of the CM’s office to a standstill. In the BJP’s reactions to the incident, they continue to be in the same mode of defending the indefensible. It is not what Kejriwal said about Modi that is important, but the incident that preceded it which is important. This is yet again an incident that shows up the incapacity of the BJP to govern this country.
Being at the helm of affairs, they seem to be enamoured of the new toys that are at their command, in this case the CBI, which they tend to use indiscriminately and without proper application of mind on its after-effects and get themselves into hot water. Or it could be that there is someone in the CBI who is deliberately acting to get the BJP into trouble and thus get them a bad public image.
In either case, it is important that the BJP should show the ability to govern this country effectively otherwise this term will be the last they will see for another two decades. Such reactions of the BJP were again brought to the fore in Parliament where while Suresh Prabhu, the Railway Minister, was making a statement on the demolition of the slums in Delhi where there was a reported death of a baby, which has since been clarified was not a direct result of the demolition exercise, he said that adequate notice was given for the demolitions.
This is rather sad that the courts had to remind the government that at the height of the cold season the demolitions could have been avoided. Such humanitarian sensitivity and compassion is something that as the Railway Minister one thinks need not be taught. Or is it that the persons responsible for the demolitions in the Rail ministry did not keep the Minister in the loop.
