Assembly elections are fast approaching and the politicians and political parties will soon be approaching the electorate with a windfall of promises. BJP has already announced DDSSY a medical insurance for every household in Goa besides some other benefits. The Congress and other parties have not pronounced their promises.
Elections have come and gone and not even once a single party national or regional promised garbage free Goa which is a need of the hour. Foreign tourists have already commented on the dirty state of Goa in regard to garbage which is seen along the highways or dumped by the roadside or in the fields. In Western countries hygiene and cleanliness are the hallmarks of day to day life.
We cannot blame the migrant population as it has increased significantly since the last decade. Goans may soon be outnumbered in our own land due to influx of migrants and departure of the sons of the soil to European countries. But the fact remains the garbage is scattered all over Goa and the government of Goa has done nothing in this regard. It is a fundamental right of every Goan to live peacefully and if we have not asked our politicians and the political parties every Goan should demand a garbage free Goa.
The Assembly elections of 2017 will be unique so as to shape the real future destiny of Goa, as so many political parties will be in the fray. It is expected the new parties on the political geography of Goa like Goa Forward and AAP will make some headways to win some seats but both the parties have to
articulate their intentions of delivering good governance for the people of Goa who have been taken for granted by the erstwhile Congress and the BJP Governments.
As mentioned in the Constitution the fruits of good governance have to reach the masses of India which is not the case in Goa. Health is wealth and it is the duty of the government in power to provide healthy living conditions. It is expected that the future political parties will promise in their election manifestos “Good governance and garbage free Goa.”
