With the shooting down by Turkey a Russian fighter jet which Turkey claims had repeatedly violated their airspace, the situation in the war-torn area has become very volatile and dangerous. To add salt to the wound videos are doing the rounds as to how the two pilots who ejected in a parachute were shot down for no sane reason which President Putin has not taken lightly.
This downing of an aircraft is by a supposedly friendly country unlike the previous sabotage where 224 people lost lives over the Sinai. Turkey immediately called for a 28 member NATO meeting where members lent support to Turkey. This will further isolate Russia which is already at the receiving end due to its annexation of the Crimea and unilateral attacks in Syria which the allies claim is more in support of Assad than the common enemy ISIS.
But it should be granted to Russia that what the Americans could not do in a year in the war zone Russia could accomplish in a few days. An American researcher says that Russia has shown the US policy to be totally bankrupt, because Russia has accomplished basically in one week what the US could not accomplish in one year. He adds, that the US never wanted to disarm, or dismantle ISIS /DAESH. They basically wanted to keep it there to implement its policy, and they were basically conducting a fake war, a phony war against ISIS.
Just when the allies were trying to garner Russia’s cooperation in having a collective battle against the ISIS the latest event of downing a fighter jet by Turkey has further complicated the situation.
There is nothing much Russia can do right now except to perhaps take retaliatory measures against Turkey like banning of Turkish flights over Russia and stop patronizing Turkey as a Holiday destination for Russians.
However, there will be a simmering fury in the Russian camp and it is to be seen how it will unfold. If the lid is not put on this by bringing together all parties concerned there is a clear chance the situation will deteriorate and it will be hard to tell who is fighting whom in Daesh occupied land which can also be the opening of a 3rd world war.
