Health Minister Vishwajit Rane along with the FDA Director and Scientist from CIFT S. J Lali descended at the SGPDA fish market to conduct the formalin test on fish available in the market on a request of Dr Renuka Da Silva of SGPDA. This was much needed to instill confidence in Goan fish eaters that the fish available is free from formalin in permissible limits. After Congress failed the test on the floor of the house to form a government now tried their luck to test the fish, the results were positive.
The upright FDA officer who conducted the daring test was afterwards reprimanded by the Director of FDA and Minister Rane for disclosing the results to the public before doing the confirmatory test in the laboratory. Who should we believe the kit prepared by CIFT maybe designed to detect formalin above the permissible limit did Rane take the fish to the laboratory for the confirmatory test? Secondly making prior announcement to the suppliers that the team will visit the market for inspection is something Formalin-fishy.
