There are billions of people on this planet Earth, each justifying its existence. Similarly there are billions of plants, trees, shrubs, etc., which God has created on this planet Earth; each with a purpose; especially for the sustenance of man, birds, animals, insects, crawling creations, etc. From our green foliage we get medicine, fruits, flowers, building construction material, furniture, etc., yet with all the good qualities, what sin has the tree done, that it should be cut? It may be noted that because of trees, we have rain and not vice versa.
Animals, birds and insects have never destroyed the environment, yet we human beings who claim to be masters over all living creatures on earth, sky and water and who claim to be rational animals, are the worst offenders of the environment. It is strange that super power countries spend dollars, looking for life on other planets, but way back on earth, life is being destroyed.
The Goa Government is shouting hoarse – Keep Goa Green. Who is cutting trees, the citizens are the government. I fail to understand, that when an estimate is prepared for a mega project say Mopa airport, Super Highways, International Bus Stand, Railway lines, Market complex, etc., whether tree plantation item is included; if then, why trees that are cut for development are not planted back in triplicate.
Walk down the road from Colva circle to Fatorda circle or take a drive from Colva Circle to Colva beach or travel North South along the proposed National Highway where the work is going at a break neck speed, not a single tree cut, has been planted after the road widening. Yet the Government claims that the green coverage in Goa has increased by five percentage. What has the Forest Department done to keep Goa green?
It may be noted, that trees, plants, mangroves, etc, which have life, never cry, shout or attack or run away in fear. It is heart rendering to see a tree which has taken years to grow, being felled or burnt. Even nature has no mercy when a tree is swept away by wind or flood.
To conclude, Earth is one of the ninth planet in the solar complex, having life. From the study revealed, it seems there is no life on the other planets or was there life, and it was systematically destroyed by greed down the ages; are we coming to the same fate – global warming.
