My heart bleeds for Goa as we see the dreams of Goans being shattered in all spheres of lives. The attaining of statehood for many, thought would give Goans an upper hand to plan and develop our tiny Goa into one lovely city so that the rest of India and the world take a note and be happy. But alas! That is not the case to be.
Instead, we have only seen Goa slowing growing into a monster of ills wherein the Goans have neither say no place to live up to their expectations. Instead of pace of development ever since the statehood was bestowed upon Goa, the people had high expectations of having system in place to tackle any eventuality. The system of collecting garbage, treating it and dumping it should have been the topmost priority of the government. The systematic siphoning of treasury through dubious means has made Goans’ planners bankrupt of ideas and its policies.
Take for example the Sonsoddo issue. How much money has been let down the drain and till today no sign of a permanent solution? I just happened to pass by the Sonsodo garbage areas by road yesterday, and felt so disgusted seeing the huge pile of garbage exposed fully to the nature’s furry. The authorities who were supposed to take care of this garbage seem to be least bothered. Waiting to cap it at the last minute before the onset of monsoons is a great tragedy in itself. Imagine the plight of the residents and people passing by this road from Margao to Curtorim and vice versa. One is exposed to all sorts of viruses once the leach-hates flow down the roads. It is bound to create an epidemic in the locality as our city fathers are seen dancing to the tunes of their chair.
The elected representatives have failed in all respects to adhere and uphold the interests of the people. The latest classic case is of selling of Tiracol village by almost 10 lakhs of sq.meters. Can we Goans afford this sell-out? It was disgraceful to learn that the said project was passed by the earlier Congress regime and now washing their sins in public.
So, these are the type of policies which are hurting Goa and Goans the most. Issues closer to our hearts are always run into controversies only to see that the time and money is wasted. The unity of Goans today is at stake due to making non-Goans the kings in our own land. It’s a different matter all together when some come to Goa and works hard to earn and learn and climbs the ladder of success. But our politicians’ have sold Goa to satisfy their lust of greed and they may not be forgiven by the generations to come.
The working of any government departments besides the local bodies like Panchayats and Municipalities should be yearning for discipline which is paramount to the development taking to the grass roots levels instead of bringing corruption to the door steps of its people.
