On 19 December 2014, our mai Goa will complete 53 years of so called liberation. Once again it will be a day of useless speeches by Goa’s useless politicians. In this 53 years of liberation, our mai Goa has been ruined and looted in the name of development. Our fertile fields been converted into huge concrete structures. Our beautiful green, rich hills been razed into flat surfaces. Huge number of constructions been allowed on the hills. Sand dunes on our virgin beaches been razed to make way for rich hotels. In other words, our once virgin beaches been miserably raped during broad daylight. Massive mining scam and the concerned authorities hardly bothered about the recovery of mining loot worth thousands of crores of rupees. It is because of our greed the genuine mining dependents are suffering due to the closure of mining presently.
The biggest responsibility of any elected government is the responsibility in its own people but every successive government after liberation has miserably failed to protect its own people and our own land. It all started with the first ever elected government which tried its level best to merge Goa with Maharashtra but Goa’s daring children saved Goa from the merger. Then came the Congress which was very well known for top level corruption and her top level corrupt political sons and daughters and the present day BJP is just following the footsteps of Congress.
The first revolution against the Portuguese law was started from my village of Cuncolim. I am proud to be a Cuncollekar but sad to say that daring Cuncollekars disappeared long ago. The ground water of our village got polluted due to the dumping of the industrial waste in the nearby fields. Carbon deposits is very much common in our houses, not forgetting the worst rotten fishy smell on daily basis. The Goa Pollution Control Board been only conducting tests since ages but no results till now. Some of us successfully fought against the football Academy during Joaquim Alemao’s tenure as a minister saying that we cannot afford to lose our precious land for the academy. Now work on the same private land is in full swing to convert it into a massive residential area. Will the same now benefit Cuncollekars in any way? Also there are so called few qualified illiterates who are opposed to the setting up of NIT at Cuncolim. If they succeeded, then there will be another Monti-dongor at Cuncolim like the one in Margao.
All major cities been destroyed in the name of unplanned development and now full efforts are on to destroy our beautiful villages. Take the Case of Tiracol, the destructors are all set to destroy the village in the name of Golf Course and a Bridge against the wishes of the locals. Is our elected government for the people? Don’t intend to elaborate on the proposed Mopa airport. It is been rightly said that the proposed airport is the joint venture of Congress and the BJP. All sorts of environmental clearances is just a paper exercise. The people in power has sold their souls for money, there is no respect for nature and this can be a invitation for a natural disaster.
