Technology has dramatically changed life in the past decade or two. With instant internet access on our phones, we have the world under our fingertips. At the same time, we run the risk of limiting the world just to our fingertips, missing out on at least four other senses. When we look at our phones to feel connected, we miss out on the possibilities for real connections all around us.
There is another danger in the pull of technology. Not only is there a risk of missing out on people around us, there is also the real possibility that we forget to connect on an even deeper level. If we want to feel peace and defeat the daily grind of life, making connections with God is of vital importance.
We see this in the example of Jesus himself. In the Bible, we learn on several occasions that Jesus removes himself from everyone else to pray. Sometimes, his own followers have to look for him in the mountains, where Jesus sits and connects to God. This deep connection can balance us, create direction and purpose in our lives, and recharge us for the rest of the day.
Jesus Christ says: “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” ( John 15: 5 ). This verse arrests us in our thinking and gives us great reason to rethink everything. What if we stay plugged in and connected to our Creator with the same unmatched enthusiasm? What if we are to give God the same dedication, reliance and trust that we give to our small plugged in know-it-all’s?
Would we not have the most amazing life if we started our days supercharged in the Lord and completely connected to the ultimate of all power sources? The connection that is always reliable, the one that is never subject to error, the one that can’t break down or become obsolete. Sometimes the greatest battle is not fought against outside opposition but rather in our own choice to yield our will to God’s word. We must start our days filled with the word of God, seeking God and his righteousness first and before anything else. Then we will be anointed and equipped to handle all things through Him. He is unfailing.
We need to be fully connected to the divine love and wisdom of our Heavenly Father, by wholeheartedly trusting in Him. By praying, reading the Word, and following His deep and divine purpose for our lives, we will stay rooted in Him. Worship Him and surrender our days to Jesus Christ. Without Him we can do nothing, we are nothing. Like a branch pruned from the vine, it will surely die.
Jesus Christ calls himself a vine because it gives life to branches. Without the vine the branches can’t live. When the branches are live and healthy they naturally produce fruit. Producing can’t happen without abiding in Jesus. All spiritual fruit are happening because of God. If we think we are the ones producing all the good deeds we do we cut ourselves off from the vine and die.
