Today, we observe World Environment Day all over the world to make the people aware to protect and preserve the environment, which is everybody’s concern today, mostly due to global warming.
India is given the privilege to host the World Environment Day 2018, celebration. The theme chosen is “Beat Plastic Pollution”. On this Environment Day, let all of us give it a serious thought, as to what we can do to make our planet clear and greener?
Goa’s Ministry of Environment must enforce strict environmental regulations and have a safety and environmental protection policy to protect our lakes, creeks and rivers from getting polluted with sewage, filthy plastic waste and garbage been dumped as this seriously affect tourism in our state.
Notice boards should be put up at prominent tourist spots in Goa, to warn people regarding plastic litter and those found violating the rule should be fined and stiff action be taken against the offenders.
In Goa, all municipal Councils, Village Panchayats should try to clear the plastic waste, garbage generated by the temporary stall owners and vendors selling their goods during the major fairs held in Goa, at the various feasts and zatras on a daily basis, instead of clearing the waste only when the fair over, which normally last 7 to 10 days, as per the permission given by the Municipal Councils or village Panchayats.
An addition garbage tax could be collected from the stall owners and vendors in order to keep the city clean for the services provided on a daily basis.
All village panchayats should make great efforts to keep the roads leading to all the beaches
In their village clean and plastic free by employing ragpickers to collect the disposable plastic bags, plastic mineral water bottles and pet bottles thrown around either side of the road leading to the beach.
All TV channels registered and operating from Goa could take the lead in educating people on the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution” as our country will host the 2018, world Environment Day celebration. TV Channel Operators could devote atleast one minute of its programme time slot everyday for atleast a month, as part of their Corporate Social responsibility to create an awareness to protect our Environment.
If our tourism department intends to make Goa a paradise on earth for tourists, then it should keep Goa clean and plastic free to match its natural beauty.
