Often we come across professionals and businessmen who say that they cannot afford to be honest in the business world. How sad! In fact, it needs real heroism to create beauty or progress in the country. It is not for the coward, for those who compromise with their ideals. If we are not ready to make sacrifices, no society can move forward. We cannot expect a miracle to happen, an angel to come down and suddenly, with a magic wand, make the entire country glow.
Rather, by individual sacrifices alone, real progress is possible. In all fields – political, economic and cultural, progress has taken place in the world only through sacrifices. Even if just a few people, after realising the goal of life, the right way of living, and the art of existence, were to enter into the business world and live an ideal, moral standard of living, finding fulfillment in the work itself, not caring much for the petty earnings, they would be inspiring others to live this way of life. Until we are ready to make a sacrifice, we cannot do anything to improve the society. The responsibility to improve the world rests upon our individual shoulders.
Only when we understand and live the right life at home, the home is beautified. Whether at home or in the society or in the institutions where we work, we must have that integrity in ourselves so that we will able to work in the world outside with a sense of achievement, rather than work for a mere passing hour of success or for a little more money in our pockets. The modern man, whether he is wealthy or not, has such a large stomach that he sees nothing beyond it. Nothing lies beyond the stomach, because the appetite to live the sensuous life has become insatiable. How will such a person ever be able to work?
Our desires are so many to satisfy that even our twenty-four hours day’s work is insufficient. There is, therefore, discontent in the heart at all times. A man who is riddled with discontent cannot act beautifully in the world; he cannot have a greater vision in life to achieve. Whereas, if we observe a man of success in any profession, we find that he has no time to waste in the cafes, to see movies, etc. Most people, fritter away their precious time aimlessly in cafes, shopping malls, and so on. Why? Because they have no goal in life. They crave to live only at the physical level.
