There are many social evils in our society, not just alcoholism and drug addiction, but the worst among them is communalism, instigating religious disharmony, conspiring against the existing brotherhood and so on.
There are a few individuals/organisations which work for their own ideology and not for religious ideology. They are destroying the fabric of our society in the name of religion. They wish to propagate their skewed interpretation of religion. No religion will preach the destruction of other religions, harming the people practicing other religions, and vandalizing sacred places of other religions and disrupting their way of living. The people involved in such activities are the biggest criminals.
Such anti-social activities only satisfy their own minds and not their religion. Such individuals/organisations are the real parasites of our society. We should be alert to see that we are not hypnotised by them. We should not allow them to sow the seeds of communal disharmony in our minds as well as in our society. It’s time for us to think, were such things happening in Goa in the past? Are such things happening in Goa now? Why is it happening now? We are all educated; hence it should not be difficult for us to get the answer.
What have our politicians done to come to power? Promised us garbage solution, reduction in prices, freedom of medium of instruction in schools and what not, before the elections. But after elections what have they done? Have the problems of the common man reduced or have they multiplied? Ask these politicians where their children have studied? Their children have become doctors, engineers or advocates; in Konkani medium or Marathi medium?
Here our politicians are pretending as if they are trying to preserve our culture, but they have sent their children to foreign nations for higher education, what culture are they practicing there? Is anybody a witness to this? We Goans should carefully think about these matters. Our culture speaks about living in peace, harmony, following and respecting what is laid down in the Constitution; it has to be thought about and practiced first. We Indians have the constitutional right to follow and practice any religion. Those who do not accept this should be considered as anti-social elements, they do not have the right to live in this nation.
Let us not destroy humanity in the pursuit of achieving personal satisfaction-such philosophy will not find favour with any religion/God. My fellow Goans, be united not as Hindus, not as Christians not as Muslims, But as members of a common humanity!
