As reported in your esteemed daily dated July 6 with the chief minister of Goa, the great Parsekar saying that “it has become a fashion to halt development by NGOs in the name of environment” then I would say it has become the fashion for the Parsekar government to destroy and destruct Goa’s environment in the name of development.
Somebody has rightly said that it is we, who need the environment and not the environment who needs us. To understand the importance of environment, one doesn’t need to be an environmentalist. It is the basic common sense with a clean and clear heart, mind, love towards Mother Nature and sadly these basic important things are missing in most of us and Goa’s politicians when in power have always become the worst enemies of Mother Nature. God always forgives men sometimes but nature never forgives. Nature is very patient but when the patience is lost, even God will not be in a position to save us.
I do understand and agree that there might be NGOs with a hidden agenda but wholeheartedly thank the Goa Foundation headed by respected Claude Alvares who has done so much good for Goa and still doing at this age. It is the same Claude Alvares who was highly praised by the present defence minister of our country when in opposition against the corrupt Congress in Goa for doing the same work then. Power makes us blind, true friends when in opposition turns out to be worst enemies when in power, destruction when in opposition becomes development when in power, greed takes over our conscious and we fail to understand the difference between black and white.
Till today I could not understand what exactly development means? Does development means conversion of agricultural land into concrete structures, razing of hills, destruction of forest, allowing mega housing projects in Goa’s sensitive villages, selling Goa’s identity to the top bidder?
I really could not understand what exactly the chief minister mean by saying the central and state government officers has got a special affection for Goa? Yes, Goa is heaven for the most of the non-Goan government officers because everything is available free for them in Goa.
I have got a lot to say but will halt for the time being. Anyway, belated birthday wishes to our beloved Parsekar and did not expect such senseless statements from a teacher like you on your Birthday.
Senseless statement by Goa’s beloved CM!
