The news may not be good, but they are certainly eye catching and compelling, urging most Goans not only here but wherever they are to chase the newspapers, TV channels, social media and of course gossip, since the last many days and always looking for fresh developments.
Firstly the shocking news of the capture of Francis Pereira a one man Superarmy involved in the destruction and desecration of several religious structures and relics. What is interesting is that this incredible Superman was indulging solo in acts of vandalism for the past 15 years and managed to either brake or desecrate over 150 religious structures as alleged by the police and some politicians and that too with a small hammer, without leaving any trail or suspicion. What is most amazing is that no one in Goa, not even the police had any inkling about his dastardly acts. Over and above he had further plans to inflict with his cunning dexterity desecration of one the most revered Fulancho Kuris and the statue of world acclaimed Goan Abbe Faria in Panjim. Undoubtedly for this he would need greater planning and expertise.
The second and of course an unpleasant one was the intended and much derided entry of offshore Casino Lucky 7 in the River Mandovi and add further to the already existing marine congestion. Fortunately that Lucky 7 got itself grounded off Miramar beach much to the relief of Goa government. The third event is an unprecedented one in which thieves daringly managed to uproot an ICICI bank’s ATM filled with Rs 3.9 lakh and flee away. In this case too, no one seemed to notice the men or the machine. Of course the ATM was found later but minus the cash.
Fourth and last is the “stealing” and publication by social activist Kashinath Shetye on the Facebook questions and the answers framed by MLA Nilesh Cabral and addressed to the Electricity Dept. These queries were meant to be asked and debated in the Goa Assembly Session. Mr Cabral was so infuriated that he at once lodged a strong complaint against Shetye to the Speaker of the House and also threatened to move breach of privilege against Facebook.
Well we may say that Goa is small but events that happen here are strange and BIG.
