The second wave of Covid is more deadly and devastating. Unlike the first wave, now the virus has spread in rural areas also leading to a trail of deaths. This time Covid is affecting youth more and spreading in the entire family, infecting all the members and thus making it even more difficult. Affected families are struggling to care for each other as the disease limits help from other friends and family members also. Lack of oxygen cylinders and hospital beds created chaos and insecurity among people. The panic and insecurity is proving lethal on already suffering patients. The expense on the disease is a real burden on all after a financially bad year.
The news of floating bodies in rivers is really disturbing. The fear of the virus and losing loved ones is causing anxiety in everyone. As the disease is contagious, bereaved families are even unable to bid proper, dignified and last farewell to their lost family members, in this pandemic. As soon as the Lancet study of airborne transmission was in the news, people became aware and more conscious about the disease and its necessary precautions, but by then it was too late. If the concept of airborne was known earlier, people would have become more alert and the situation today would have been better. The black fungus is adding to the woes of the pandemic. The virus is continuously throwing new challenges. Our doctors and medical fraternity is struggling to cope up with the ravaging pandemic. People are failing to identify the disease at its early stage. Any person in the family with fever should be considered and checked for covid and should be quarantined immediately.
These simple mistakes and ignorance by us are sparking and spreading the virus even more. Moreover, delay in diagnosis and treatments are leading to complications in patients. People need to be more aware and alert to identify the disease early, to start the treatment timely and know the importance of blood tests and scans to save themselves from reaching the disastrous stage of the disease. The approval of vaccines for kids is also soon expected and is very necessary before the impending third wave of virus hits the country.
This time is testing both our humanity and patience. In this difficult period, many people are lending their helping hands, providing free meals at doorsteps of Covid positive quarantined families and with medical help also.
We are paying for our own mistakes of moving out more frequently for reasons which were avoidable, the result of which was inevitable and which we knew but were trying to overlook. We are bearing the brunt of our own negligence. As soon as we felt a bit relaxed with the controlled covid graph, we started taking it easy, resuming back to our normal lifestyle. Now it’s high time we should learn a lesson and not take precautions lightly. Vaccination provides vital protection against the disease. As new and more vaccines are expected in coming months, we hope government will soon complete the vaccination drive. Along with this if we follow all precautions and covid protocols strictly, we may succeed in avoiding and winning over the expected third wave.
